Iodide deficiency has serious effects on body growth and mental development. Iodide deficiency
disorders are major public health problem in several areas of the world. At least 350 million
Africans are at risk of iodide deficiency and are at risk of its complication. In Ethiopia, according
to a study conducted laelay maychew, Tigray region,2015, household iodized salt utilization was
33% .This is very low compared to the World health organization recommendation(90%).
Hence this study will be undertaken to assess utilization of adequately iodized salt and
associated factors at house-hold level among rural community in Sekela district.
Objective: This study will be conducted to determine iodized salt utilization and identifying it
associated factors at household level in Sekela District, West Gojjam Zone, Amhara regional
state, northwest Ethiopia.
Methods: Community based cross-sectional study will be conducted m sekela district,
Northwest Ethiopia from February 1-30, 2017. The sample size also is calculated using single
population proportion formula .Then systematic sampling method will be deployed to select
study subjects. Structured questionnaire & rapid field test kits will be used to collect the data.
Finally data will be cleaned, coded & entered in to EPI Info and exported to SPSS for analysis.
